After graduation from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham in 2004, Dr. Stuart
Curry served 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Curry practiced cosmetic dentistry, implant
restoration, and comprehensive dental care while stationed at MacDill Air Force Base. To expand his
knowledge and education, he was participated in many hours of continuing education, both through the
Air Force and via civilian courses.
Dr. Curry’s dream was to return to his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, and provide the latest in
dental services, technology, products, and techniques available today. He is involved in many
professional societies, including the American Dental Association, Birmingham District Dental Society
and the Alabama Dental Association.

One of the establishments on 18 th Street is Savage’s Bakery & Deli, a Birmingham landmark for more
than 70 years. Savage’s was opened in 1939 on Highland Avenue, but now operates on 18th Street
South. Savage’s is an area favorite, famous for meltaways, iced smiley face cookies, butterflake rolls, and specialty cakes.
Samford University is also located in Homewood. Founded in 1841, Samford’s campus is renowned for its beauty and Georgian-Colonial style architecture. The university currently enrolls nearly 6,000
students from 47 states and 28 countries. Samford is the top-ranked university in Alabama in national
rankings according to The Wall Street Journal. The Wall Street Journal also ranks Samford third in the
nation for student engagement. The Greenway is a 6-mile, multi-use trail for walking, running, and bicycling and runs along the creek from Brookwood Colonial Mall to Green Springs Highway.
Patriot Park is located adjacent to the Homewood Senior Center in West Homewood, on the corner of
Oak Grove Road and Raleigh Avenue. The park was remodeled and expanded in 2012 with new
restroom facilities, a concrete walking path, two picnic pavilions, and a children’s playground. Patriot
Park is a passive park; its focus is on open-space and the preservation of the natural habitat. As a result,the park has abundant shade provided by many beautiful trees.
The West Homewood Farmers Market features 40-50 vendors every Tuesday night in June and July.
Items for sale include local farm products, baked goods, home décor, and arts and crafts items. The
market also hosts food trucks and live entertainment in addition to providing kids activities and more.
