After graduation from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham in 2004, Dr. Stuart
Curry served 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Curry practiced cosmetic dentistry, implant
restoration, and comprehensive dental care while stationed at MacDill Air Force Base. To expand his
knowledge and education, he was participated in many hours of continuing education, both through the
Air Force and via civilian courses.
Dr. Curry’s dream was to return to his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, and provide the latest in
dental services, technology, products, and techniques available today. He is involved in many
professional societies, including the American Dental Association, Birmingham District Dental Society
and the Alabama Dental Association.

Life Is Good In Homewood, AL

One of the establishments on 18 th Street is Savage’s Bakery & Deli, a Birmingham landmark for more than 70 years. Savage’s was opened in 1939 on Highland Avenue, but now operates on 18th Street South. Savage’s is an area favorite, famous for meltaways, iced smiley face cookies, butterflake rolls, and specialty cakes.

Samford University is also located in Homewood. Founded in 1841, Samford’s campus is renowned for its beauty and Georgian-Colonial style architecture. The university currently enrolls nearly 6,000 students from 47 states and 28 countries. Samford is the top-ranked university in Alabama in national rankings according to The Wall Street Journal. The Wall Street Journal also ranks Samford third in the nation for student engagement. The university offers undergraduate programs in ten academic schools: arts, arts and sciences, business, divinity, education, health professions, law, nursing, pharmacy, and public health. Samford has one of three accredited law schools and one of the two accredited pharmacy schools in Alabama. In addition, Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School is the only fully accredited graduate divinity school in the state.

Residents of Homewood also enjoy a few city parks and green spaces. Visitors can find a bit of peace and tranquility at the Homewood Central Park. Located next to the Homewood community center, the park offers abundant green space to for family picnics, frisbee, and kite flying. A large playground is available for families to enjoy, as well as six large pavilions with picnic tables, an amphitheater, two tennis courts,and the Homewood Shades Creek Greenway. The Greenway is a 6-mile, multi-use trail for walking, running, and bicycling and runs along the creek from Brookwood Colonial Mall to Green Springs Highway.

Patriot Park is located adjacent to the Homewood Senior Center in West Homewood, on the corner of Oak Grove Road and Raleigh Avenue. The park was remodeled and expanded in 2012 with new restroom facilities, a concrete walking path, two picnic pavilions, and a children’s playground. Patriot Park is a passive park; its focus is on open-space and the preservation of the natural habitat. As a result,the park has abundant shade provided by many beautiful trees.

The West Homewood Farmers Market features 40-50 vendors every Tuesday night in June and July. Items for sale include local farm products, baked goods, home décor, and arts and crafts items. The market also hosts food trucks and live entertainment in addition to providing kids activities and more.
