Acton is an unincorporated community in Shelby County, in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is partially located within the city of Hoover. It is not to be confused with the village of Acton, approximately 6+1⁄2 miles to the northeast in Jefferson County.

Acton was established in 1832 by farmers who grew cotton and other crops. The town became a stop on the Louisville & Nashville Railroad in the late nineteenth century. Acton is now a historic town with a population of slightly more than 1,000 people.
Hank Williams Sr., a country music legend born in nearby Mount Olive in 1923, is one of Acton’s most famous residents. Williams grew up in Acton and frequently visited his grandparents’ home. The Hank Williams Museum honors Williams’ life and career in downtown Montgomery.
